Want to feel effective, confident and knowledgeable working outside of autism spectrum disorders?

Are you frustrated because your employer and insurance companies dictate who you can see and what you can offer them?

So often, behavior analysts lack the support in the workplace to offer creative, effective, and evidence-based treatment options.  And the corporate workplace is tedious and tiring! BCBAs work odd hours to serve their clients. They're exhausted from billing insurance and jumping through hoops to make sure their treatment plans are covered.

I’ve been there!

As behavior analysts we are generally expected to treat clients with autism spectrum disorders. We know there are more people who could use our support…still we’re limited by insurance and our workplaces.

Studies are revealing…again and again…that those who suffer from medical conditions with a behavioral component (like Type 2 Diabetes) have improved outcomes with reinforcement-based treatments to support behavioral change such as counseling, community reinforcement, medication and treatment compliance (McSharry J, 2020).

The science of ABA benefiting clients outside of autism and related disorders is well known within the ABA community. The textbook Clinical and Organizational Applications of Applied Behavior Analysis includes sections on ABA for health, fitness and sports performance in addition to weight loss management, the treatment of human psychological suffering (anxiety, depression) and behavioral treatment approaches to gambling and drug addiction (Roane, Ringdahl, Falcomata, 2015).

Are you hesitant to craft your own path because you haven’t mastered skills to treat clients outside the autism spectrum?

Do you long to develop a private practice and expand your impact to support more people?

Do you know there is a better way to serve your community AND craft a career path you love… you’re just not sure what steps to take to get there?

As BCBAs, we can use the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) outside the world of autism. Whether you come into this work from social work, education, or psychology, you can learn and integrate additional tools to:

  • broaden your skill set

  • offer more treatment options

  • identify clients to work with both on and off the autism spectrum

Holistic Behavior Analysis (HBA) incorporates a wide range of trauma-informed approaches to help your client thrive physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually. Through HBA our clients can develop more psychological flexibility…the ability to self-manage emotions, thoughts, and behavior in order to extract the best possible outcomes in varying complex situations.

Evidence has pointed to the psychological flexibility that is developed through ACT treatment improves outcomes related to job satisfaction, mental health and daily activity engagement in pain patients (Kashdan, 2011). Experimental studies have even shown us that those with greater psychological flexibility show more endurance, pain tolerance, and a more rapid rate of recovery to baseline distress levels…AND show improved clinical findings in anxiety disorder and borderline personality disorder (Kashdan, 2011).

As you gain skills and techniques to employ, you can step out of the ABA box and design a career in alignment with your personal goals and values.

If you’re considering a private practice you might wonder:

  • Which methods would be most effective and worthwhile to learn and implement?

  • There are so many CE opportunities available to the BCBA community. How would you know which ones to invest in to help set you up for working with clients outside of autism spectrum disorders?

  • Have other BCBAs been successful in developing their private practices?

  • What are the best strategies?

  • Can I actually learn the tools I need online…through remote learning? Or will I push through the material without really integrating it?

Over the last 14 years as a BCBA, I've become passionate about trauma-informed care, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and self-care practices. These tools have helped my clients overcome mental obstacles, gain perspective on their thoughts and heal holistically.

Because I've integrated these skills into my private practice, I now feel confident working outside the ABA box!  I can serve a broad range of clients, on and off the spectrum.

I want to help as many behavior analysts as I can design their life and career based on their values…and on their own terms!

Ashley has been such a fantastic coach in walking alongside me. She is equally skilled in working with me on challenges big and small. I am so grateful to Dr. Ashley Fiorilli. Listen, if you are wanting to address those things that keep showing up and limiting, you reach out to her. You will be so glad you did.

That’s why I created this Holistic Behavior Analysis course.

The Holistic Behavior Analysis Course

This Holistic Behavior Analysis (HBA) course helps BCBAs who are stuck within the corporate model and limited by insurance coverage terms advance their careers with tools, practical skills and confidence. In doing so they can apply their science outside of the world of autism (maybe even build a private practice on their terms!) and gain confidence and clarity through a supportive professional network.

This course will not only get you a wider range of assessment and treatment tools…you’ll be joining a supportive community of like-minded professionals. These peers (myself included) will be side-by-side with you on the path to treating clients outside of autism. Together, we are crafting a career based on our life values.

In the ACT model, psychological flexibility is about being aware of thoughts and emotions that unfold in the present moment (Kashdan, 2011). Without applying judgment  or defensiveness, we can apply the tools of HBA, including ACT, to support our clients in relating to their thoughts and emotions in a more productive, less destructive way…and guide them toward positive behavioral outcomes.

It’s an at your own pace, interactive course so that you can follow through, be inspired by others, and be in a professional community.

What’s inside the HBA course:

  • Lecture content with interactive Q & A sessions + opportunities to practice your new skills…because who said professional development had to be dry and boring?? Here you’ll have the chance to engage in the material with your new professional network versus clicking through slides on your own. Of course, you’ll have to participate to take advantage of this benefit!

  • Practical tools and takeaways so your learning can transform to knowing right away…

  • PDF handouts with exercises and activities for homework to energize your intellect.

  • Personal reflection assignments to grow your inner understanding of the content.

  • Tools to practice on a friend or family member to warm up, hone and repeat your techniques.

  • Access to all lecture slides including helpful visuals like clinical decision trees & case conceptualization “at a glance.” You won’t be left scrambling to remember what to do when you’re preparing to work with a client and won’t feel adrift when you’re out there on your own.

  • 8 Continuing Education Units upon completion that count towards recertification through the BACB.

  • Content includes trauma-informed care, language intervention and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Matrix tools for the assessment and treatment of:

  • Trauma

  • Pain

  • Anxiety

Once you get inside this course you’ll build your confidence working with clients who don’t have autism disorders and stride into your private practice with certainty that you will be knowledgeable and qualified to thrive outside the box…and serve your clients so that they can bloom too!
